  • Tone2 Pro - Firmware 1.41

Improved volume adjustment, and other minor software updates. Hello Community! We’ve just released the v1.41 firmware for your Tone2 Pro, you can download it from the link below: https://dl.khadas.com/products/tone2/firmware/tone2_pro/ Warning: Do not power-off your Tone2 Pro during the upgrade process, doing so will permanently corrupt the device firmware Please disconnect BT Magic before starting the upgrade process, failure to do so will result in corrupted MCU firmware Do not use the Tone2's firmware with the Tone2 Pro's, doing so will permanently corrupt the Tone2 Pro's firmware MCU Firmware Changelog: Improved volume adjustment Enabled HID volume support Improved encoder operation experience with a new jitter elimination algorithm Added support for BT Magic Improved automatic input switching Reduced probability of an unrecognized device Solved noise issue when MQA files are played at max volume XMOS Firmware Changelog: Improved LED display indication Fixed MFi version display issue Fixed iMac wake-from-sleep issue Fixed BT Magic's noise issue when playing back PCM768 Fixed Mac OS HID volume issue Download XMOS Firmware: Due to limited USB bandwidth, Tone2 Pro cannot support HID volume control and PCM768 at the same time, so these features were implemented separately in two firmware versions. Choose either the normal firmware or HID firmware for your Tone2 Pro's XMOS chip. tone2pro-xmos-v1.41-221201 (supports PCM768, but not HID volume control) tone2pro-xmos-hid-v1.41-221201 (supports HID volume control, but not PCM768) Since the MCU firmware has been combined into the XMOS firmware, after upgrading the XMOS, it is necessary to replug (off then on) the power supply to enter the MCU upgrade mode, thus completing the entire upgrade process. During this time, the LED light will flash 3 times representing "Detect, Update, and Complete" respectively. Known Issues: When Tone2 Pro is connected, your PC will not enter the sleep state automatically. (We have tried to solve this problem, but the current solution will cause an error exception when switching to the next DSD track, so we have not released this update) The Tone2 Pro may become unrecognized when a Windows 10 PC wakes up from sleep. This issue was not observed on Windows 11 nor macOS. How to Upgrade: For v1.2 or later firmware, please check page 6 of the User Manual: Firmware Upgrade. For v1.0 firmware (serial number starts with 0C… or 11…), in addition to updating the XMOS firmware, the MCU needs to be updated separately. Required Software Tools: ASIO driver XMOS DFU tools MCU upgrade tool and firmware (only v1.0 firmware needs this) Information for updating the MCU (only v1.0 firmware needs this): https://forum.khadas.com/t/tone2-pro-firmware-v1-2-mcu-update/11944 Instruction Videos: Forum Discussion: https://forum.khadas.com/t/tone2-pro-firmware-update-v1-41/17656 Tone2 Pro User Manual (EN): https://dl.khadas.com/products/tone2/manual/tone2_pro_user_manual_en.pdf Purchase a Tone2 Pro: https://www.khadas.com/product-page/tone2pro Purchase a Tone2 Pro on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3Xxp7vg Purchase a BT Magic: https://www.khadas.com/product-page/bt-magic Warmly, Khadas Maker Team

  • VIM3 v14 - What's New?

Our popular VIM3 single board computer with the Amlogic A311D SoC and 5.0 TOPS NPU has been updated from v13 to v14! The TPS2121RUXR chip used in the v13 has been replaced with the WS4684C in v14 as the original chip that controls the power source selection between USB-C and VIN is in short supply. Find out what's changed in this blog post. Updated Power Supply Design 1. Schematics: A new circuit diagram showing the changed between TPS2121RUXR and WS4684C. 2. Circuit Description: a) The TPS2121RUXR chip used in the v13 has been replaced with the WS4684C in v14 as the new power management chip. b) DCIN, which provides electrical power, is the unified power supply for the entire system. c) DCIN_USBC and DCIN_VIN are two paths to supply power to DCIN. DCIN then supplies power to the VIM3. Both DCIN_USBC and DCIN_VIN are in a high-impedance state when there is no power input: The DCIN_USBC transmit power via the USB-C port of VIM3. The DCIN_VIN transmit power via the VIN port on the back of the VIM3. d) The power supply priority of DCIN_VIN is higher than that of DCIN_USBC. This means that if electrical power is supplied to both the USB-C and VIN ports simultaneously, VIM3 will choose to use power from the VIN port. e) When the power supply switches from DCIN_USBC to DCIN_VIN, that is, when the VIM3 is powered via the USB-C port and the VIN port is then simultaneously connected, the power supply will switch to the VIN port. When this happens, the WS4684C will incur a 22ms switching delay, and this will cause VIM3 v14 to restart. 3. WS4684C Power Switching Logic Table: New PCB Layout 1. PCB 2D Layout 2. PCBA Photograph 3. Possible Risk When the VIM3 v14 is powered via the USB-C port, and then power is also supplied to the VIN port, then VIM3 v14 will switch over to the VIN power supply, causing the device to restart. When will v14 be in stock? Presently, all VIM3 boards purchased from Khadas Shop, AliExpress and Amazon are guaranteed to be the v14 version. The new boards are available now! To improve your productivity and satisfaction is always in our first priority. • Finally Here! Khadas Autumn Launch Event

Edge2, Tone2, VIM1S & BT Magic are available from today! Dear Khadas Community, Our Khadas Autumn Launch Event is finally here! In this blog article, we will talk about the performance improvements of each product and the early bird discounts. For those who love videos, check out our latest launch video above! YouTube Reviews More YouTubers will be releasing their honest reviews about Edge2, Tone2, VIM1S and BT Magic in the next few weeks. Pay attention to creators such as ETA PRIME, ExplainingComputers, Taki Udon, Leepspvideo and more! Edge2 The reason why we call Edge2 an ‘ARM PC’ and not a ‘single board computer’, is due to its desktop class performance. As you can see from our performance tests, the 8 nanometer RK3588S is 2.5 times faster than the 28 nanometer RK3399 used in Edge1. Despite the tremendous performance increase, Edge2’s thermal output and energy consumption remain similar to Edge 1; requiring only the Khadas ‘3705 Cooling Fan’ and ‘Edge Heatsink’ for thermal dissipation, and the same ‘24W USB-C P.D. power adapter’ used by the Edge1. These improvements to Edge2 culminate in a product that is not just a single board computer for hardware developers. The 8 nanometer architecture of the RK3588S and beautifully crafted polycarbonate enclosure brings it squarely into the purview of software developers. Early Bird Price By now you must be wondering, “So when can I buy such an amazing ARM PC?”, and the answer is today! As promised our early bird discount will be valid from September 20th to October 31st. All prices are in $US dollars Edge2 Maker Kits ship within 2 days once the order is confirmed Edge2 ARM PCs ship on or before mid December 2022 VIM1S OEM and Maker customers can rejoice with the VIM1S, a cost-effective and power-efficient embedded platform that will enjoy support for many more years. In our performance tests, the S905Y4 provided a moderate 15 to 20% performance boost. VIM1S Improvements: Amlogic S905Y4 w/ x4 Cortex A35 @ up to 2.0 GHz Mali-G31 MP2 GPU @ up to 850 MHz STMicro STM8S003 for power mgmt and boot selection (eMMC or SPI flash) 2GB LPDDR4 @ 1176 MHz Supports larger and faster UHS-I SD cards Large 32MB SPI flash Ampak AP6256 Wi-Fi module with Bluetooth 5.0 27 grams (vs VIM1’s 28.5 grams) Standard Pricing VIM1S is a product intended for developers and OEM customers; early bird pricing will not be available. That being said, bulk order (volume) pricing is available. Please contact your Khadas Representative or email hello@khadas.com for details. Retail Price: 64.9 All prices are in $US dollars VIM1S ships within 2 days once the order is confirmed VIM1S does not have an early bird discount Tone2 You may be deciding which DAC to purchase, the Tone2 Pro, Tone2 or the Tone1. The Tone1 will cease production in the coming months, so that leaves either Tone2 Pro or Tone2. Tone2 Pro was designed for the high-end audiophile, it is a more expensive full-featured DAC which includes 3.5/4.4mm headphone jacks, a headphone amplifier, and MQA decoding. Whereas Tone2 was designed for Audiophiles and Makers who wish to integrate a powerful DAC into their products. To help your inner audiophile make an informed choice, we have created a comparison table showing the detailed differences between Tone2 Pro, Tone2 and Tone1. Early Bird Price Tone2 is a retail product intended for the budget prosumer market, so it will have early bird pricing from September 20th to October 31st. All prices are in $US dollars Tone2 orders will ship before October 31st 2022 BT Magic Highlights The ‘BT Magic’ plug-in Bluetooth audio receiver for Tone2 and Tone2 Pro supports all major Bluetooth audio formats such as SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX-LL, aptX-HD and LDAC. • New Gadgets 4 Makers!

Edge2, Tone2, VIM1S & BT Magic are coming this Fall. Dear Khadas Community, We will be launching five new Khadas products for Makers and ODM customers this Fall! Our launch event will be on September 20th, 2022 at 6:00 pm (GMT +8). Leave your email contact on our event landing page if you wish to be reminded about all the latest product updates! Edge2 The first product we want to introduce to Makers is our Khadas Edge2. This ARM PC is the successor to Edge and Edge-V. However, unlike its predecessor this new board uses the Rockchip RK3588S SoC, which is the smaller brother to the RK3588, fabricated using an 8 nanometer process. As you can expect, this new processor not only has enhanced performance, it also has much better power and thermal efficiency which we know Makers will just love. This is why we call it an “ARM PC” because it is going to be the first Khadas product that has similar performance to an entry-level consumer PC on the market today! Our Edge2 ARM PC has a few more notable features, which we shall keep secret for now. Stay tuned for further email and social media updates to learn more! Tone2 As some of you may already know, our beloved Tone1 which has been the staple for numerous DIY audiophile and OEM music projects will soon be discontinued and the final batch will be produced in the coming months. Tone2 will continue Tone1’s Hi-Fi legacy with the time-tested ESS ES9038Q2M DAC, so you can expect even better sound quality from Tone2! Some Highlights: ESS ES9038Q2M DAC XMOS XU208 Balanced RCA Product Configurations: Anodized Aluminum Case (For Consumers) Maker Kit (Bare PCB for Makers & OEM Customers) We will also release a brand new color for Tone2 - “Dream Blue” as you can see below. VIM1S Our VIM1 single board computer has often been a low-cost and power-efficient solution for many Makers and OEM developers. The much-loved Amlogic S905X SoC sipped power and in many circumstances didn’t even require a heatsink to function normally. This September we will be continuing to honor our Makers and OEM customers of the VIM1 with the upgraded VIM1S. This new single board computer integrates a new SoC with similar power requirements, but much improved processing and GPU performance. We will announce more technical specifications in the coming weeks! BT Magic Not entirely related to Makers and OEM customers but still significant, is our much anticipated “BT Magic”! This product is a USB-C Bluetooth audio receiver that allows you to wirelessly send high-fidelity music from your smartphone or tablet directly to a Tone2 or Tone2 Pro! More technical specifications to be announced soon… M2X WWAN Extension Board & 5G Module Makers will be delighted to know that they will soon be able to purchase the M2X WWAN Extension Board for their Khadas single board computer! This “shield board” is compatible with VIM4, VIM3, and Edge-V and it allows you to plug in a 5G transceiver module into your Khadas VIM4 (VIM3 and Edge-V only have software support for 4G modules at present). We will provide more details about the supported frequencies, countries and software implementation in the coming days. That’s all for now folks! Keep your eyes peeled and stay tuned for more mouth-watering updates! If you have any feedback for our upcoming launch, please email hello@khadas.com. Keep making, Khadas Team
